Terms & Conditions
1. Introduction
Welcome to Annotating Fashion. By accessing our website and using our services, you agree to be bound by these Terms & Conditions. These terms apply to all visitors, users, and others who access or use the Service.
2. Intellectual Property Rights
Unless otherwise stated, Annotating Fashion owns the intellectual property rights for all material on this platform. This includes, but is not limited to, original essays, research bibliographies, and curated archival commentary.
Personal Use Only: Your membership grants you a non-exclusive, non-transferable license to access content for personal, non-commercial, and educational research purposes.
Restrictions: You must not republish, sell, rent, or sub-license material from Annotating Fashion. Systematic downloading or "scraping" of the Bibliography or Archive database is strictly prohibited.
All material on this Site is protected by copyright. No permission is given to directly reprint or republish the Site content in part or in full without express acknowledgement and direct links back to the original page or content source. At no point are you entitled to claim rights over our intellectual property. You may not reproduce, modify, copy, or distribute for commercial purposes any material or content on this Site.
3.Archival Material & Research Citations
3.1. Into the Archive: The Into the Archive section of this Site features scans and reproductions of historical fashion media. Annotating Fashion does not claim ownership of the original copyright for these historical images or publications. These materials are presented under 'Fair Dealing' exceptions for the purposes of private study, research, criticism, and review. We make every effort to reference original creators, photographers, and publications appropriately.
3.2. Academic Integrity & Bibliographies: The Bibliographies provided on this Site are a curated research product of Annotating Fashion. While the sources listed within the bibliographies are public record, the selection, organisation, and annotation of these lists are our intellectual property. Full academic references for all research used on this Site can be found in the associated bibliographies.
3.3. Requests for Removal: If you are a copyright holder of any archival material featured on this Site and object to its inclusion, please contact us directly. We operate a "notice and takedown" policy and will review such requests in good faith.
4. Membership & Access
Individual Use: Subscriptions are for a single user only. Sharing login credentials to allow multiple users access to the Member Dashboard is a breach of these terms.
Open Access: Eligibility for our Open Access tier is subject to our ‘Verify and Delete’ protocol. We reserve the right to revoke access if eligibility criteria are no longer met or if proof provided is found to be fraudulent.
5. Subscription, Billing, and Cancellations
Billing: Payments are processed via Stripe. By subscribing, you authorise us to charge the membership fee to your chosen payment method on a recurring basis.
Cancellations: You may cancel your subscription at any time via your Account Settings.
Refunds: Due to the digital nature of our content, we generally do not offer refunds once a billing cycle has begun and content has been accessed. Upon cancellation, your access will continue until the end of your current paid billing period.
6. User Conduct & Termination
We bridge the gap between academia and mainstream media. We expect our community to engage in respectful discourse. We reserve the right to terminate memberships for users who engage in harassment, hate speech, or the distribution of "pirated" copies of our research.
We reserve the right to terminate or suspend your subscription immediately, without prior notice or liability, if you breach these Terms. This includes, but is not limited to, the plagiarism of any parts of the Annotating Fashion site, bibliographies, or archival research. In the event of such a violation, no refunds will be issued for the remaining duration of your subscription.
Third-Party Content: Any comments on our blog or social media channels are not endorsed or verified by us. We are not responsible for comments made by third parties. Should we become aware of comments likely to be distressing or harmful, we will remove them at our discretion. Removal of comments does not indicate that any compensation will be awarded.
7. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Annotating Fashion shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages. Our total liability for any claim arising out of these Terms or your use of the Service shall be limited to the total amount paid by you for your subscription in the 12 months preceding the claim.
8. Changes to Terms
We reserve the right to amend these terms at any time. We will notify members of significant changes via the email address associated with their account.
9. Governing Law
These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales.

Alternatively, departing Open Access members may transition to a standard paid subscription at a 50% discount for the following year.
